Manatee County agriculture and extension service offers free workshops

Bradenton, Florida -- The Manatee County Agriculture and Extension Service is offering a variety of free educational classes for June 2013.

The Extension Service is an educational program within county government which brings the resources of the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) to Manatee County to:

  • Solve local problems
  • Provide educational opportunities
  • Promote economic enhancement and development
  • Improve the quality of life for all of our citizens

Bradenton, Florida -- South Florida Museum announced Monday that more than 1,100 individuals contributed to The Ripple Effect for Manatees this year. Donations ranged from $1 to $1,012, and came from around the country.

You can say that the staff at Pinellas County Animal Services went Quackers.

After getting word that a duck with an arrow through its neck had been sighted several times over the past several weeks, Pinellas County Animal Control Officer John Hobson joined forces with Damen Hurd and Derrick Ross of Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation in Bradenton.

On Thursday, Oct. 18, the three went to the pond in St. Petersburg where the wounded duck had been sighted. They were able to rescue the duck and Hobson took it to Animal Services.

Snooty's 64th birthday bash a success

Bradenton, Florida -- The South Florida Museum says an estimated 3,500 people attended Snooty's Birthday Bash at the South Florida Museum on July 21, including those who participated in the live online broadcast of Snooty's "Happy Birthday" song.

Some also shared their birthday wishes on Facebook as well, including Seana Frint and her family in Illinois.

Hundreds of children from Pre-K through 6th grade also participated in the Snooty birthday card contest associated with the bash.

Bradenton, Florida -- On Saturday, July 21, the South Florida Museum invites the public to celebrate Snooty's 64th birthday. Snooty is the world's oldest manatee on record and, in addition to coming out and celebrating his big day, he needs your help by joining the Ripple Effect.

The Ripple Effect is the Museum's fundraising campaign to support its Manatee Care Program which feeds Snooty and his friends at the Museum.
