Bradenton, Fl. - Flying saucers, UFOs, aliens and creepy creatures...can all be seen on the big screen at the South Florida Museum. On Friday, April 19, the new Film Fridays series "They Came From Outer Space" kicks off at the Bishop Planetarium Theater.

The series will explore how filmmakers have depicted the threat of little green men for decades.

Florida State Parks announces new, free mobile app

Florida-- Trees, lakes, trails, wildlife- they're all things that come to mind when thinking about Florida's parks. Techonology, smartphones and applications, howeverm are probably the last things to come to mind- until now!

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Park Services department has announced the launch of their new, free mobile application, which will serve as an interactive guide for users on the go at any of Florida's 171 parks, trails and historic sites.

Tampa Bay, Florida -- All Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate high school teachers from Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Manatee and Sarasota counties are invited to participate in a one-day workshop at The University of Tampa on Saturday, Feb. 23, to learn how to inspire students to take their interest in chemistry outside of the classroom.

The free event will be held in the Plant Hall Music Room on campus from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes lunch. The media is welcome to attend.

Bradenton, Florida -- On Thursday, Feb. 14, the public is invited for the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for Manatee Techincal Institute's new main campus.

The new Manatee Tech represents a modern, high-tech training facility to meet the workforce needs of Manatee County. Over 2,000 students a year are expected to be served in the new 210,000 square-foot building, which cost approximately $44 million.

The ceremony will include the recognition of those individuals who contributed to the creation of the first-class institution.

Judging begins in Lockheed Martin Manatee Regional Science and Engineering Fair

Bradenton, Florida -- Today, Jan. 24, more than 230 Manatee District middle and high school students will be judged on their innovative and informative science fair projects in the Lockheed Martin Manatee Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

The projects are on display during the Manatee County Fair in the Kendrick Auditorium where a team of 50 science professionals will judge the exhibits and interview the students.

Students test innovation skills at model water tower competition

Bradenton, Florida -- More than 100 inventive middle and high school students will put their engineering talents on display this Saturday, Nov. 3, when Haile Middle School hosts the 10th Annual Model Water Tower Contest.

During the competition that starts at 9 a.m., teams of students will display miniature working water towers they designed and constructed for judges who evaluate them on how the models would fare in the real world.

Bradenton, Florida -- On Friday, Oct. 5, South Florida Museum will let guests touch, feel and experience the oldest object you will ever encounter, a fragment of the Campo del Cielo meteorite, affectionately named "FeNi".

The free event will be held from 5 - 9 p.m. allowing attendees the unique opportunity of experiencing original materials that make up our solar system. The first 500 kids at the event will also receive free meteorite dust to take home!
