Manatee County History Fair Team receives high honors at competition

Bradenton, Florida - The 2013 Manatee County History Fair Team received several honors at the Florida History Fair in Tallahassee. Twenty-three students were part of 1,100 students from across the state who competed this year.

It was a suspenseful time from May 5-7th, when more than 200 judges evaluated some 631 entries in five categories: historical papers, documentaries, exhibit boards, websites and performances.

Many Manatee County team projects merited excellent and superior ratings and five advanced to the final rounds.

Manatee County schools' Phoenix Racing wins SAE formula one

Manatee, Florida -- Four students from three Manatee County Schools have just returned to Florida after capturing the USA Society for Automotive Engineers F1 in Schools National Championship. The award came after two days of tough competition against teams from across the nation at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan.  Phoenix Racing also won the “Best Engineered Car” award for ingenuity shown in their balsa car design.

Bradenton, Florida -- The Anna Maria Oyster Bar Scholarship program graciously provides five $1,000 scholarships to students entering culinary or hospitality fields of study at either a technical school or degree program.  

Applications for the scholarships are due to the Manatee Education Foundation office by May 25, 2013. The application can be found at The Scholarship Source on the Manatee Education Foundation website at, www.MEFinfo.org.

Students will interview school board superintendent on "Seminole Teen Talk"

Bradenton, Florida -- School Board Chair Karen Carpenter and Superintendent Rick Mills will be guests on a program titled “Seminole Teen Talk” produced by Southeast High School this Thursday, April 25, 2013, beginning at 7 p.m.

800 students compete in school track meet

800 students compete in school track meet

Bradenton, Florida -- More than 800 students representing at least 20 schools and more than 1,000 spectators are expected to take part in the Manatee County School District’s Annual Elementary School Track Meet this Saturday, April 20, beginning at 9 a.m. at Bayshore High School.

Always a great event, the Elementary School Track Meet gives young students a chance to showcase their athletic skills in events like the 400-Meter Dash and the 4x100-Meter Relay – always a crowd favorite.

Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee County School District is accepting charter school applications.

The applications for charter schools in Florida are part of a public choice program. Anyone considering starting a new charter school in Manatee should submit a letter of interest to the Innovative Program Office. Initial contact with the district is a critical step in understanding the district's expectations for a completed application. All applications for a new charter school must be submitted to the district by August 1.
