Manatee County, Florida --  Manatee County has an opening for a citizen member on the 2013 Value Adjustment Board which hears appeals regarding denied property tax exemptions, petitions relating to assessments, and appeals concerning ad valorem tax deferrals.

Bradenton, Florida -- There will be a  "Town Hall Meeting" where residents can meet new Manatee County Schools Superintendent Rick Mills and members of his leadership team.

Superintendent Mills will share his vision and leadership ideas for the Manatee District and will be available for questions and answers. 

It will be held at the Pathway Christian Fellowship Center at 329 6th Avenue West in Bradenton.

Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee County Commission on Tuesday, April 9 at 9:30 a.m. is scheduled to discuss a referendum on community tax issues.

The Board is expected to make a final decision on whether to hold a public referendum on June 18, 2013 – as currently scheduled – or to move it to August 6, 2013.

Manatee County, Florida -- Following the County Administrator’s Annual Report to the Board Tuesday, County Commissioners unanimously moved to begin contract extension negotiations that would retain Ed Hunzeker beyond his planned 2014 retirement date.

“(Hunzeker) has accomplished many money saving measures in his time here and he’s given us a peek of an ambitious agenda ahead,” Commission Chairman Larry Bustle said of Hunzeker. “Ed’s leadership is vital. I think it’s a bad time to let him go.”

Tallahassee, Florida - Gov. Rick Scott and leaders of Florida ports are urging President Obama to take action to prevent a possible strike by port workers this weekend.

The contract for members of the International Longshoremen's Association is set to expire Saturday night. The ILA is negotiating with the United States Maritime Alliance.

Gov. Scott says a strike by thousands of longshoremen could affect 550,000 jobs in Florida and send shockwaves through the state's economy. He says transporting cargo shipments generates $66 billion a year in Florida.
