Lakewood Ranch, Florida --  Lexi Brown is remembered as a person who had a gift of unconditional love and compassion for everyone and everything. That special gift was remembered on Thursday at a birthday party in her honor.

In January, 10-year-old Alexandra "Lexi" Brown was murdered in Ohio while on a trip with her father.

The Broken Egg Restaurant hosted a fundraiser for Nate's Honor Animal Rescue, Lexi's favorite charity. Lexi loved volunteering at Nate's because she loved animals and spent many hours caring for dogs and cats there.

Palmetto, Florida -- Manatee County Animal Services is inviting animal lovers to come out for their Build a Bed Party this Thursday, Dec. 20.

These aren't your typical dog beds that you see at pet stores, shelter dogs need special chew proof, durable beds called Kuranda beds. Kuranda beds --recommended by the shelter -- are made from PVC pipe and marine canvas material that don't have any rough edges the dogs can get a hold of to chew.
