Bradenton, FL - For the past eight years, it's been a tradition for patrons to sign money and staple it to the walls at The Distillery. Some have written just their name, others short notes.
On Tuesday, it was time for all that money to come down because the bar is moving. But owner Paul Kotlarczyk says they are not keeping it.
"We thought it would be a good idea to donate it to a charity and do some good with it. After all, it never really was our money to begin with," Kotlarczyk said.
The money, according to Kotlarczyk, is going to Suncoast Charities For Children.
"So I'm calling it currency for children or currency for kids, because it's really going to help a lot of children and families, " said Suncoast Charities For Children Vice President Lucy Nicandri.
Before taking the money down, Kotlarczyk estimated there was $1,700 stapled to his bar's walls. He says he'll reveal the total on Saturday when The Distillery closes at its current location.
Kotlarczyk says The Distillery will open at its new located at 450 12th West in downtown Bradenton in August.
