Sarasota, Florida -- Goodwill Industries Manasota is reporting thousands of dollars worth of tools were stolen Tuesday from three of their maintenance trucks.
During the burglary, they say the trucks were parked in the organization's facilities parking lot in Sarasota when they were broken into after the thieves cut through the lot's fence. In all, $5,000 worth of hand tools were taken.
"We are a service-based industry and the shameful theft of these tools hits us hard. But it also strikes at the community we serve," says Bob Rosinsky, president of Goodwill Manasota, adding that the impact on the bottom line is more than just the cost of the tools. "We're all victims of this crime. These thieves are preying on the good will of the Sarasota-Manatee community by stealing from a nonprofit that helps thousands of disadvantaged people in our community."
Rosinsky says the tools were not insured and the organization will have to spend the money out of their budget to get more tools and repair the trucks.
