Manatee County schools' Phoenix Racing wins SAE formula one

Manatee, Florida -- Four students from three Manatee County Schools have just returned to Florida after capturing the USA Society for Automotive Engineers F1 in Schools National Championship. The award came after two days of tough competition against teams from across the nation at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan.  Phoenix Racing also won the “Best Engineered Car” award for ingenuity shown in their balsa car design.

Burglary of cars and apartment

Manatee County, Florida -- Suspect(s) robbed an apartment and surrounding cars at Mira Lagos Apartments late Saturday evening. 

Reportedly, on May 11, unknown suspect(s) attempted to break into three vehicles by prying the windows open. The fourth vehicle had the back window broken out and the suspects attempted to take the stereo. 

Unknown suspects broke into one apartment, which was occupied, and stole a computer.

Manatee golf club earns "best residential golf community" recognition

Bradenton, Florida -- Waterlefe Golf & River Club has been named "Best Residential Golf Community" for 22013 by the Bradenton Community.

It earned the distinction for its 18-hole luxury golf course along the Manatee River. The collection of signature golf holes designed by course architect Ted McAnlis create a challenge for golfers of all skill levels. Tees range in length from 4700 to 6908 yards. The course also includes an aqua range, practice putting green, full-service pro shop, grille room and beverage cart service.

Online job fair for Tampa Bay's youth

Clearwater, Florida -- From May 12 to May 18, people will have access to job opportunities through an online job fair targeting job seekers ages 14 to 24. 

The hiring event will span a four-county radius including Manatee, Sarasota, Hillsborough and Pinellas. 

“The virtual job fair is an opportunity to connect youth with employment so that they may gain the skills and experience necessary to become successful future members of the workforce,” said Edward Peachey, President and CEO of the Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance and WorkNet Pinellas.

Bradenton, Florida -- We've been following the story of 2-year-old Ireland Nugent, who lost her feet in a lawn mower accident. That tragic accident means she'll need a prosthesis, which could cost tens of thousands of dollars.

There's a way you can help. On August 6th, The Women Owners of Florida, Inc is hosting a fundrasier for Steve Chamberland's "50 Legs" in St. Petersburg. Everyone is invited to attend and anyone can donate silent auction items.

Mail carriers collect food for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Carrollwood, Florida - Mail carriers will take part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents can leave non-perishable food item by their mailbox and the letter carrier will pick it up. The food will be donated to food banks to distribute to needy citizens.

Last year, over 70-million pounds of food was donated across the country.

If you cannot leave food items by your mailbox, you can drop it by your local post office.

Deputies seize 179 pounds of synthetic drugs

Manatee County, Florida - "Why would you want to make money off harming kids? Not cool," says 22-year-old Amber Ingram.

But that is what Manatee Sheriff deputies say has been happening at two Shell Stations along 14th Street West and 53rd and 57th Avenues. While some customers walk in for soda and cigarettes, deputies say others have been walking out with packets of synthetic drugs.
