Explosion and fire kills man in Bradenton

Bradenton, Florida - One person is dead following the explosion of a shed at 5416 36th Street East on Monday afternoon.

Officials are still not sure what caused the explosion, which happened around 12:20 p.m.

"I was just sitting on the couch watching the news and I heard an explosion, so I went to the sliding glass doors and the shed... by the time I looked out [it] was engulfed in flames," said Jennifer Malloy.

Malloy says she then called 911.

"It was like a transformer blew up, it was pretty loud."

The identity of the victim has not yet been released, but officials believe he was the 20-year-old grandson of the homeowner. Apparently the man was over doing lawn work for his grandparents when he went inside the shed and it exploded.

30 years later, man charged with sexual battery

BRADENTON, Florida-- An apparent change of heart 33 years later, has landed a Bradenton man in jail.

On Thursday, Manatee County deputies arrested 57 year old Robert Lee Johnson on sexual battery charges for a crime they say he committed in August of 1978.

At that time, investigators determined a 6 year old girl had been sexually assaulted, but the victim's family did not want to press charges.

But the victim, who is now 39, came forward to the sheriff's office last month and wanted to pursue the case.

Deputies reopened the investigation and established probable cause to arrest Johnson.
